If you should ever want someone but want them to change here are three different ways that that’s strange way 1: you will fail way 2: how stale if they do way 3: if you need them to, they're just not for you it can’t be done can’t be won shouldn’t even be tried rule number one can’t be done can’t be won whoever said it could lied nobody fixes anybody nobody fixes anybody so don’t bother picking anybody that you wouldn’t wanna pick if you left them unfixed if you’re shaken by the storms before you set sail how frail is the thing that you feel? you want her or else you don’t, there’s no in between she isn’t yours to redeem a mile off you can scoff but it can’t be denied rule number one can’t be done can’t be won shouldn’t even be tried nobody fixes anybody nobody fixes anybody so don’t bother picking anybody that you wouldn’t wanna pick if you left them unfixed nobody fixes anybody nobody fixes anybody nobody fixes anybody nobody fixes anybody nobody fixes anybody but nobody makes me feel like you do nobody fixes anybody but nobody makes me feel like you do

we hate the DAWs and the 808s we hate the leads and the sidechain gates, you know it we hate the filters, the filters, we don’t know what they are but we know we hate them like we hate the ADSR we hate the autotune although we can’t hear it we hate the beat almost as much as we fear it we hate your dancing and we hate your fun we’ll avoid the party like it’s nineteen seventy one we hate the downloads and we hate the streams we think the Fairlight’s when it all came apart at the seams we’ve got twenty paragraphs on digital compression we think records sounded best before the great depression and what you need is a rhythm section or a beard and some more acoustic introspection the kids today aren’t really having fun I bet they wish they’d woken up in nineteen seventy one and it’s easy to be cool when you’ve set all the rules it’s easy to be cool when you’ve set all the rules it’s easy to be cool when you’ve set all the rules it’s easy to be cool when you’ve set all the rules

paying no attention and everything's fine trusting in the strength of our Maginot line there’s no reason to be worried, it’s under control get me another cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll oh my darling, it couldn’t happen here so raise a glass with me and celebrate another new year we’re a fortress, we’re a castle, there’s nothing getting in we’re the barbed wire, we’re the turrets, we’re east berlin (don’t be scared, don’t be scared of the drop now) that’s when we fall when we fall when we fall together  we’re the barbed wire, we’re the turrets, we’re east berlin we’re a fortress, we’re a castle, there’s nothing getting in so raise a glass with me and celebrate another new year oh my darling, it couldn’t happen here another cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll there’s no reason to be worried, it’s under control trusting in the strength of our Maginot line means that absolutely nothing’s ever gonna be fine (and I’m scared, I’m so scared of the drop now) that’s when we fall when we fall when we fall together  tonight let’s hold it together for tonight let’s toast the dying of the light let’s hold it together for tonight that’s when we fall when we fall when we fall together  and when we fall when we fall when we fall together

her face tilted up and gazing into your face summer dress and half a grin and flushed skin resting on your chest and framed in ringlets arms around your shoulders on the platform, alone together in a press of bodies your two are the only ones that matter breathing in the scent of adoration and perspiration glowing in the sunshine I remember we all need someone we all need that sun we all need someone to look at us like that you’re her religion, you’re the idol, you’re the Jesus to her Mary Magdalene if Mary really had to jump the saviour’s bones ok, bad analogy, but really that look could make a nearly dead man do a tango bang a gong for youth and all its glory remember all his hoary pulling stories forget the poor years god I feel so old yet I remember we all need someone we all need that sun we all need someone to look at us like that

Heartstrings 03:01
begging me to stay and you come round tugging on my heartstrings and I just can’t break away I don’t know, I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but even so you come here tugging on my heartstrings every single day and I used to be in love I used to be in love with you so we had it ok for a while but it’s over, I can’t save you you come down giving me your reasons why I need to stay and you come round giving me your reasons and I have no earthly way of telling you, telling you my mind was made up long ago so you come here giving me your reasons anyway and I used to be in love I used to be in love with you oh we had it ok for a while but it’s over, I can’t save you and we had it good there for a while now it’s over, I think you know that I want to not be sorry but of course I’m sorry

I Am Awake 04:06
I am awake, it's five in the morning, the sun's slowly rising and I’m awake weak yellow light, the mist slowly lifting I’m seeing clearly this time soon comes the sun I am awake, shaking the dust from my eyes as I take a breath cool morning air, washed blue ink sky and I am awake this time soon comes the sun I am awake, stretching and thinking, stepping outside my door the road is deserted, the world seems to listen, coiled with potential this time feel the morning exploding in me and I shine, I shine like the sun (who knows what a new day brings? who knows what it brings?) soon comes the sun I am awake, I feel a decision it’s rising with the light and I’m awake a haze on the morning, the day slowly melting through all the treetops this time feel the morning exploding in me and I shine, I shine like the sun (who knows what a new day brings? who knows what it brings?) I am awake, it’s five in the morning I am awake this time

my house is full of people I don’t know they followed us back here after the show all I want is for them to go I look at you and say I’m sorry but you just smile and say that it’s ok you’re having a good time anyway you take my arm and the music plays and suddenly I’m standing close to you somewhere sparkling and new in the centre of the world next to you somewhere shimmering and blue in the centre of the world against them all we’ll be blood brothers classical history’s tragic lovers I will conquer all the others shelter you and make them sorry but you just smile and say I’m wrong we don’t have to take anyone on you look at me and play that song and suddenly I’m standing this vantage point, this blessed, reflected next to you at the centre of the world

Captain, 15 03:00
all your doubts, they are particles everything is reducible they’ll light up your skull just like a carnival dimming with the day, your fears are electrical the power cuts out and they’re soluble, recombining and recyclable into something beautiful come on don’t worry close your eyes and breathe the oil in the sea, the salt, the diesel and the din the hull reflects Mediterranean cooling with the day you can’t part the briny waves you can’t tell the wind how to behave but screw your courage to the sticking place and we’ll not fail come on don’t worry maybe you can’t fight it maybe we can’t fight it come on don’t worry come on stay busy come on don’t worry come on, we’ve got to hurry now the sea is dark the tide is in the sea is dark the tide is coming in

I’m afraid of myself  of what I never show to anyone try to look somewhere else and wait for it to go, try not to run  so I wait and wait and wait for my own miracle I’ll lock it down  I can see, I see the horizon I feel the light rising in me, oh I can see, I see the horizon and the distant shore is calling me I have spent all my time pretending not to feel, trying to behave try to keep myself tame pretending it's not real, trying to be brave so I wait and wait and wait but it's not brave at all to lock it down  I can see, I see the horizon I feel the light rising in me, oh I can see, I see the horizon and the distant shore is calling me I can see, I see the horizon and my snakeskin falls down by my feet, oh I can see, I see the horizon and I think I know what I could be

about

"Vows" is our second album (and Bandcamp is the ONLY place you can download it in the same high-res 24-bit, 96khz lossless audio in which it was recorded, mixed and mastered).

Self-produced over a period of a year, "Vows" is eleven songs of hope, longing and love which have been a long time in the crafting.

While preparing for the album sessions we did a quick totting-up of the number of ideas, sketches and finished songs which we've worked on since the release of our last album, "Polar Ships" at the tail end of 2013. There were ninety-three.

So some of the songs which made it onto this record were always going to; some of them we agonised over. A couple were late arrivals. But for every track on the album, there are probably at least 8 that didn't make it.

But ultimately we saw a theme emerging. This is a positive record, a record about life and learning and the things that happen when you're making plans. Time and again, the idea of hope came up in the songs: sometimes expressed outright, sometimes as yearning, sometimes as a bit of sidespin on good old-fashioned heartbreak.

But mostly we wanted to write some bangers that we love, and we want you to love them too. We hope you do.

Thanks for listening - and we really mean that. As independent artists, we're genuinely THRILLED when someone listens to our stuff. If you like it - come to Facebook and tell us?

Take care, you lot.
